What You Need
- ENET cable (OBD2 to Ethernet, grab one from our store or Amazon AU)
- Windows laptop. Windows only for this one, Mac isn’t supported
- Stable internet (WiFi or a phone hotspot)
- USB flash drive to plug into the car during the session
- Android phone on Android 11 or newer (needed for wireless Android Auto)
- WiFi antenna plugged into the back of the head unit. Most iDrive 5 and 6 cars with factory CarPlay already have one. If yours doesn’t, use OEM part 61119278133 or an aftermarket FAKRA antenna. Not included, send us your VIN and we’ll check.
On iDrive 4? The upgrade has a few extra requirements, like a battery charger connected during the session. Check them on the iDrive 4 to iDrive 6 page before ordering.
How It Works
- Order and book a session time that suits you (we’re on AEST but flexible)
- Start the car, plug in the ENET cable and get your laptop online
- Have your USB flash drive ready to plug into the car
- Our technician connects remotely and activates Android Auto
- About 10 minutes later, pair your phone and you’re on wireless Android Auto

FAQ
Is it permanent? Yes, one payment. No subscription.
Is it wireless? Yes, wireless only. There’s no wired USB option, so the WiFi antenna has to be fitted.
Do I need an MMI box or extra hardware? No. Android Auto runs natively on your factory head unit. Nothing to install behind the dash.
Which phones work? Any Android phone on Android 11 or newer, including Samsung and Pixel.
Will I keep Apple CarPlay? Yes. CarPlay and Android Auto both work, so iPhone and Android drivers are covered.
I only have a Mac. Can I still do it? You’ll need a Windows laptop for the session. Borrowing one for 10 minutes works fine.
Will a dealer update undo it? A dealer software update can reset it. Let us know and we’ll sort it.
What if my car isn’t compatible? Send us your VIN first and we’ll confirm before you pay. If we confirm it and it turns out not to be compatible, you get a full refund.

Had the NBT EVO ID4 to ID6 upgrade done on my 2016 M4 and the difference is huge. The new iDrive interface looks much more modern and having full-screen Apple CarPlay makes the interior feel years newer. Process was smooth and everything worked perfectly.
My X1 came with the newer EntryNav2 system but didn't have Apple CarPlay activated from factory. Bimmer Drive enabled it remotely and now CarPlay works wirelessly exactly like OEM. Very easy process just connected the ENET cable and they handled the rest.
My G30 5 Series already had factory Apple CarPlay but it was stuck in the smaller split-screen layout. The fullscreen activation made such a big difference. Looks cleaner and uses the whole display like newer BMWs. No aftermarket hardware needed.
I was looking at aftermarket CarPlay screens for my F30 but decided to keep the factory system instead. The NBT EVO CarPlay activation gave me everything I wanted while keeping the original BMW interface, steering wheel controls and sound quality.

Will this work with my BMW?
Compatibility depends on your BMW’s head unit, software version and hardware. We support a wide range of BMW systems including NBT, NBT EVO, EntryNav2 and MGU. Send us your VIN and current iDrive screen/software version and we can confirm compatibility.
Do I need to replace my screen or install aftermarket hardware?
No. Our services use your vehicle’s existing BMW iDrive system. No aftermarket screens or modifications are required.
How does the remote activation work?
You will need:
- ENET cable
- Windows laptop
- Stable internet connection
Once connected, our technician remotely completes the activation/coding process.
Will I lose my BMW settings or factory features?
No. Your factory BMW features remain unchanged. Steering wheel controls, iDrive controller, microphone and factory audio systems continue to operate normally.
Can you activate CarPlay if my BMW does not currently have it?
Yes, many BMW models can have Apple CarPlay activated if the correct hardware is installed. We check your vehicle’s compatibility before proceeding.
How long does the process take?
Most activations take approximately 15–60 minutes, depending on the vehicle and service required. Firmware upgrades may take longer.
